News And Facts: Typhoon Seniang Weak But Deadlier Than Typhoon Ruby


Seniang, which had winds of 65 kph near the center with gusts of 80 kph, officially caused more deaths than Typhoon Ruby that hit Eastern Visayas and nearby provinces in early December. The death toll from Tropical Storm Seniang (Jangmi) jumped to 53 as of Wednesday noon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has said.

The province that mostly affected by Seniang was Bohol which was also experienced a devastating earthquake magnitude 7.2 on richter scale last October 15, 2013. Truly Boholanos has not yet fully recovered from that calamity and now this typhoon wrecked havoc on a numerous town in Bohol.

Roads and bridges were affected and destroyed by the flood caused the heavy rained poured by typhoon seniang. Many of the resident's houses were destroyed and left abandoned due to the rushing water coming from the rivers and mountains.

Seniang entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, December 28 and passed through the Visayas and Mindanao. It left PAR on Friday, January 1.
